John, when you see someone post +1 that means they agree with what has been previously said about a topic. It is used like "ditto".

some forums give reputation points. when someone says something good you can give them a point. the points accumulate and they get a different name like  "Cue  hero"... many people that give a rep point will say +1 to show they did it. it has travelled here as a "ditto"

I think this forum drives your title _from newbie etc... from number of posts.... neither way is wrong, just different.
