Not Sure about Temp Prob?
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:50:38 AM »
Got 2 Turkey Breast in both 5.5.lbs, one has 80 temp and the other one has 105?  I have checked them for placement and believe I have them in the right place?  Did not have this problem at Thanksgiving, using the same probes, Mav 733.  Any Suggestions or ideas?  Is there a site that shows the correct place to put them, as I have them in the side thickest part away from the bone?

Not all meats behave the same. Swap what probe is in each hunk of meat. If the reading show the same variance your maverick probes are ok and it's just the meat.

3 hours, both of them pulled at 163, gonna rest them and cut them later, will post info.  One thing it is 43 here and it took 30 minutes longer to cook these than at Thanksgiving.  They look great will get pics and try to figure out how to post them on here later. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics.

FYI, here is a thread that should help with posting the picks:

Well insulated as these smokers are, ambient temp does have an effect on cooking time in the initial heat up stage. If it is cold outside, the element has to overcome the cold temp in the smoker and possibly humidity as well.  Perfectly normal to see an extended cook time.

Sorry Sorry Sorry :-[ :-[ :-[, had some wonderful pics, but did something wrong and deleted them before I read the instructions!!

Wound up smoking 4 Turkey Breast, 2 at a time and they all turned out AWESOME!  Everyone asked me was I a pro at this, I laughed and said no, and pointed to the smoker and said it is idiot proof, ha ha.

I am keeping good notes on what time this is and that and it is helping me to understand what this and that does to change the cooking times.

One side of the smoker seems to be a few degrees warmer than the other.
