Bypass problems
« on: July 29, 2014, 07:48:18 PM »
Hey gang. I bypassed per the instructions here. When I plug it in directly the unit powers on right away. When I plug it into the auber it does not power on properly. The unit will not power on, once I program it in the second window I get -H-. does anyone know what might be the problem?

Hey Mikey, if the element and light come on immediately, when you plug it in directly, you've done the bypass right.  I need a little more info to diagnose the Auber issue.  Please tell me a). what is your programmed steps?  b). Do you have any probes plugged in? (you'll get the -H- when no probe is in), and c). Confirm you do have the SI unit plugged into the middle 110 plug on the back of the Auber.

My first thought is that this is either a "no probe" issue, or it's in your programming.  More details, please!

Ok, I turned it off for a bit and re-did all the settings and it looks like the unit is powering up fine. Sorry for the freak out. Testing it now, will report back. Thanks.

The H is in the right window because you don't have the meat probe plugged in.  Setting the "E" step to "t" is correct for time only.  You need to hit the "Time" button to change the right display from temp to time.  You won't get a Probe 2 temp without a probe plugged in.

When you turn the Auber on, is the little green light above the right window lit?  If so, it's sending power to the unit.  Also, have you stuck a thermometer in the smoker to see if it's heating up?

Also, is the temp displayed in the left window increasing?  And, have you thought about plugging the meat probe in and dropping down the vent hole to get a reading?

Mikey,
How nice is it to dial in your temperature. I have done ribs twice. Both have been great.

Ed, it has been much better. In my opinion the #3 is not nearly as good as it could be without the Auber/bypass. With the bypass I can keep a full #3 within 5 degrees of the setting!

He Tony

You should take your wandering here and make a Auber trouble shooting checklist.

Good job.

Will do, Tex.  I answer a lot of PMs on Auber troubleshooting, and most of the time it's something small that's missed.  I'll work on this!  Thanks!

Help guys!  I have a "new" model #3, a Auber 1500 with permanent probe, and a DPDT switch coming from Amazon.  Can I get some instructions on the wiring of the switch.

Lester,

Go browse the Auber Instructions section, under User Guidelines and Instructions.  All the answers you could hope for! ;)
