Fruitawood
« on: July 17, 2014, 11:11:00 PM »
Hi all,

After reading all the good things about this company I called up and ordered the u pick em sampler today. You get 3 choices, 6-7lbs of each. I got peach, cherry, and post oak. Asked them for a smaller amount but 20# box is smallest they offer. I did ask them about smaller chunks to and he mentioned the "cookshack cut" that was mentioned here by someone. That sounds like the perfect size  :). Looking forward to some good flavored smokes! So make sure you ask for the cookshack cut if you order. I didn't see it online as an option so had to call to get it.

I order the cookshack cut.  Most are OK, but some chunks still have to be sized.  No biggie.

I just placed an order for hickory.   The key is to order from their main page using the CHUNK option for the wood, and then to add "Cook Shack Cut" in the comments section of the ordering page when checking out.   Can't wait to try them out!

I don't think the CS cut option is on the website, but if you call, they'll do it.  Comments on the order will probably work, too.

We'll see what happens...I called yesterday and they told me to put cook shack cut in the comments box on the order form.  Hope it works!

Maybe they're paying attention to the order comments now - first time I ordered, I got mini-chunks that all had to be split. :(

The cuts were pretty god, but like DM said, some of them are going to need to be split even more to fit in the smoke box.    I am trying some of the wood today.

I was just looking at their site before thinking to check here. How about the Mini Split, looks like long small chunks?

There was another link talking about this, you need to ask for the cook shack cut.

I just placed an order with them for Pecan and Peach. Asked for the Cookshack cut. I think there is lots of smoke in my near future...

They told me to state 'cook shack cut' in the comments bow on the order form.  I have to tell you, though, that many of the pieces I received are a bit too tall to fit in the smoke box and will need to be split down.   Nevertheless, I use a 3oz piece yesterday that did fit in the box and it smoked great!

I ordered 35 lbs. of wood from Fruita and also got the Cook Shack Chunks. They do have to be sized, but no big deal. Also, got the Burlap Bags for storage. Fruita advises to keep the fruit wood in a frig and the hardwood in a cool dry place.  Not an issue with me because I have an extra frig in the basement. Free Shipping is a plus....

Didn't know about the burlap bags - that must be new since I last ordered.  35 lbs will last you a LONG time! ;)
