Interesting...I will have to try that.    Often when I am smoking the winds are 10-15 around the back deck, which had me pondering if air was blowing down into the smoker.  Covering the hole for a bit might just do the trick!

but I did cover the top vent for a minute or so with a towel and it seemed to stop after that.
DO NOT cover the vent hole for any reason....I've been a volunteer fireman for over 30 years.....combustible gases that build up inside a fire scene cause great damage/flame or possible explosion when air is introduced.

Having said that, there isn't a big chance that it could happen, but do you want to be the first one to tell the story about how it did?
