Customizing the prototype Digital Model 2 - "The SI-X2"
« on: February 16, 2014, 05:45:27 PM »
Having a little fun with the prototype Model 2!  Hey, I figured it was a test platform, so I thought I'd dress her up a little! ;D   Maybe someone can come up with a better name than the SI-X2; that was just off the top of my head!

Thanks, Ben!  If we're not having fun with our hobby, we're missing the whole point! ;)

I got several from Aircraft Spruce & Specialties (used to do a lot of business with them back in my flying days), and some from Ebay.  Just have to search around a bit, but these are both of my sources.

I can't believe I missed this post. Is that a new built in controller I see on the SI? Nicely done with the decals.

This is a prototype digital, and the controller board was junk.  Steve is working on another, but it's going to be awhile.  Here's my post of the testing:

Thanks Tony.  I would think that it would be tough to beat the Auber and that really is the way to go.

In a perfect world, they would include an "option" to include an Auber with permanent probe in a prefabricated and weather proof box as part of the smoker unit.

This would be hard to beat. I would be trying to find someone to sell my #3 to so I could buy one.

Why reinvent the wheel by coming up with your own panel. Just engineer Auber units directly into the SI units.

There may be some legal reasons for not doing this that I don't know about. But this type of thing happens all the time. Consider a camper that has a fridge made by Dometic, furnace by Suburban, etc. all built into their units.

Just me thinking with my keyboard.

Smokin-It #3 (purchased in 2014) that replaced a Masterbuilt XL (ugh) and a 10+ Year-Old Big Chief (still used for fish), and few others over the years, along with variety of Weber Gas/Charcoal Grills, Anova Sous Vide, etc. devices.

I was thinking the same exact thing, I'd love a weather proof auber unit that bolts to the top of the SI.
