If you have chunks that are too large to allow the lid to close does that effect smoke?

My lid has never shut properly even with no wood in the box. The only impact that I see would be increased oxygen.

Thanks. I decided to try it and monitor after I posted and it seemed to take longer for the initial smoke to come out, but then performed normally.

I have pecan trees & routinely cut small limbs occasionally a little too thick & my box is seldom completely closed. Never noticed a difference.
