I am healing well and back to smoking
« on: March 31, 2017, 09:29:22 AM »
Short personal story.
I got old.
Told you it was short.

My knee somehow got older than the rest of me, so Dec 15, it was upgraded to titanium.  Imagine a C-Section on your leg, pulling out everything, cutting, gluing, leaving some out and rearranging what remains.  That is a lot for a body to come back from quickly.
That meant several weeks of laying around the house watching Vincent Price movies (and some moves that were much worse).

Now that I can walk well (did 25 miles at Universal Parks in Orlando with less than 3 months healing), and it has warmed up nicely in Minneapolis, I am going to put the little fella back into use. Poor thing has been sitting empty since November.  The wife is away this weekend, so I get to do what I want.  I am using the directions found in the sticky, I am going to make ribs and eat well.  Maybe put something on the Big Green Egg too, maybe potatoes and desert.

All the best to you Vinter... I had leg reconstruction last year and I can empathize. Hope you heal well.

I hope you continue to recover well. Last weekend a friend of mine (that came over for pulled pork) said he was having some knee problems and didn't know what caused it. I quickly answered "Old Age". Enjoying your ribs!

Good to see you back Don and that you are on the mend.  Getting old is sort of a blessing and a curse. Take care.  Dave

As a friend likes to say, "I'm still kicking...just not as high as I used to."

Glad your doing better Don and enjoy those ribs!

Sarge, do you think I wore out the knee from marching?  Just kidding.  Navy didn't march that much. Maybe the paper route I had as a kid wore it out.

Now, onto additional research.  I need to figure out the foil covering method used on the smoker by many of the experienced smokers.

Foil covering?  Are you referring to the smoker itself or to meat?

Smoker.

Lining the bottom accomplished.  Wasn't bad, used rack as a general guide for the size.  There are notes about lining the top, not sure how that works, so skipping it for tomorrow's smoke.

Don - you also foil the TOP of the wood box lid; helps in clean-up. And do not forget to punch a hole in the foil on the smoker floor for air to get in and grease/drippings to go out. Enjoy.

Welcome back, Don!  My wife had full knee replacement going on 2 years ago...  you have my complete empathy.

Now you have me wanting to go buy some ribs!  Haven't done those for a while.
