Pork shoulder blade roast vs boston butt
« on: March 21, 2017, 01:31:15 PM »
found i have a pork shoulder blade roast in the freezer mixed with my boston butts.
either me or the wife must of bought it some time by mistake some how

anyway grabbed it out of the freezer .. thawing it now

should i treat it any different than a butt?

i plan to smoke it later this week

Stout, treat it like a butt and you will be fine.

You can treat it like a butt, but you might not be as happy as when doing a butt.  If you are willing to experiment on the mystery meat, take it to 175 and slice it rather than pulling it.

thank you both

i think i will try that cooking it a bit less

my wife did indeed buy it now i know why.. 75 cents a pound.. there is a place she goes that puts them on sale that cheap occasionally.. if it comes out good we'll get more down the road for smoking

she had planned to cook it in the crock pot when she got it

Beware that when they say, "blade", they aren't kidding.  My experience with these is the bone weighs as much or more as the meat.
