I pulled the trigger, received my 5D on Friday and seasoned it on Saturday. I will not be able to make sausage and snack sticks for 2 weeks, it's about to drive me crazy!

Thanks, David!
I'll start rounding up materials and try the jerky recipe (sans liquid smoke, of course).

I have included a couple or three vegetarian links.  You might try cold smoking veggies to keep them crisp.  Hope this helps.  And smoking is smoking be it meat, fish, salt, nuts, taters, etc.

Jerky / Any vegetarian jerky recipes?
« Last post by Jim_MI on January 16, 2024, 11:20:57 PM »
Don't hate me for posting this on a meat smoking forum! But I have a new #3DWIFI and would like to try making some sort of savory smoked jerky for my vegetarian son.  I have looked online and find lots of recipes that are not smoked; at best, a few use liquid smoke among the ingredients. Some use dried eggplant or mushroom as the basic meat substitute, and add flavor to that. He does not like mushrooms but does a lot with tofu. I have no clue where to start but would like to share some of the SI joy with him, if anybody can help.
TIA,
Jim

Model 3.5D - The Next Step / Re: A critique on my 3.5 smoker

May I suggest that you contact Steve, the owner, and politely offer a critique and a couple of user experience suggestions?  And please make sure to introduce yourself to him.

Model 3.5D - The Next Step / A critique on my 3.5 smoker
« Last post by keitht on January 11, 2024, 10:51:41 PM »
I recently purchased and received a 3.5 Pro Series Smoker. It arrived in good condition and appears to be a really quality product. What I think they could easily improve on was that while there were lots of instruction sheets, especially regarding the controller, there was nothing at all on assembling the unit. There was a few things I had to make guesses on and I hope I guessed right.

For instance, the tube from the Bella Smoke generator. Does the slotted end go into the smoker or the non-slotted end. I guessed slotted. Does the slot go up or down? Or does it matter?

There were numerous pieces that I would look at and ask myself, what is this???  Usually after playing with it awhile, I could figure it out. But it would be so easy to send out an assembly guide with these expensive pieces of equipment. And I believe it would add to increased customer satisfaction!

And that is the end of my rant.

Sous Vide! / Re: Anova Sous Vide Oven
« Last post by Durangosmoker on January 07, 2024, 05:33:20 PM »
I bought a bagless/waterless sous vide cooker made by The Source. Got it on Amazon. I must say that I do like it, and find it Almost as good as the circulator type. The cooking container is heavy, non-stick aluminum, which is easy to clean, but I usually just line it with a piece of parchment paper and don't have to clean it. I live alone, so frequently will cook something that serves, say, 4, then reheat it for subsequent meals.  I found that the Sous Vide is brilliant at reheating food without overcooking it. my new machine reheats well, but I suspect there is a little bit of evaporation.

mine is the 3L size (there is a bigger one), and was around $450.00. the Anova oven is over $1000 on Amazon, but it has more functions.
